Dear Neighbor,
Please help me make the streets of Chicago safer by supporting an ordinance to require drivers to use hands-free cell phone devices in the City of Chicago.
Experts agree that improper cell phone use while driving dramatically increases the risk of traffic accidents.
Some of the dangerous tendencies displayed by cell phone distracted drivers include:
- delayed response to traffic situations;
- increased speed variation; and,
- increased lane deviation.
While no regulation can eliminate all distracted driving, we can take a step in the right direction. Hands-free cell phone devices improve vehicle control. Ticketing drivers who fail to use these devices will promote safe use practices.
In the coming weeks, I will call for a public hearing on the hazards of improper cell phone use while driving. I invite you to share your personal stories with the City Council. By testifying, you can raise awareness of the widespread extent of this problem and explain why we need to take action.
If you are unable to testify, you can still help pass this ordinance. Just use the simple form in this e-mail to sign our petition or send a letter to the editor expressing your support.
Thank you for joining me in this important effort to create a safer environment on the streets of Chicago.
Sincerely,

Burton F. Natarus,
Alderman, 42nd Ward
